What is an air filter and its purpose?? How to save money by DIY.
Changing Your Air Filter
|
An air filter is an important part of a car’s intake system, because it is through the air filter that the engine “breathes.” An engine needs an exact mixture of fuel and air in order to run, and all of the air enters the system first through the air filter. A clean air filter is important for your car’s performance. This means that your air filter should be changed regularly, or your gas mileage will suffer.
These should be checked/changed every 8,000 to 10,000 miles. They are very inexpensive ($6-$15) at any automotive store. They can be self-installed in a matter of minutes (check out this step by step video). Going to a Quick Lube or dealership to have this done can drive the price up by 100% if not more.

What is a Cabin Filter and its purpose?
It’s a filter used to clean incoming air for the car’s HVAC system. The cabin air filter helps trap pollen, bacteria, dust, and exhaust gases that may find their way into a vehicle’s ventilation system, making the interior of the car a healthier place.
These should be checked/changed every 12,000 to 15,000 miles. Again, this is a very easy part to self-install and can be found at any auto store for about $15-$20. (check out this step by step video). Having a Quick Lube Center or dealerships replace this item for you can easily inflate the price by 100-150% if not more.
