It’s the “Early Lease Termination Event”! No, it’s the “Exclusive Buy Back Program”! No, it’s really just the “Let Me Get Your Ass in the Door and Take a Shot at You Event!” The power of telling people what they want to hear and the fact that consumers always want something new provides car dealers with thousands of phone calls every month from this inexpensive way of advertising.
When I worked for Mercedes we would buy mailing lists consisting of people who currently owned a Mercedes and sent out letters of how we needed their pre-owned car for inventory. We would usually have this event on a Saturday giving away cheap door prizes for showing up and free BBQ. The letters that were sent out would have a VIP number on the bottom. Of course you would have to show up the day of the event to check your number against the winning number for a chance at the $10,000 prize. I don’t recall anyone ever winning though… I’m sure someone in the world must have won one of these…
Don’t fall for these letters or forms of advertising. If you have: 1) Payments remaining on your current lease 2) Are over your miles 3) Had any form of paint work or a car accident
The chances are extremely high that if you’re looking to switch brands or get out of your car early you’ll be rolling negative equity into your next car. Save the time of going to the dealer and the money it will cost you in the long run.
There are some exceptions though… Some manufacturers really do offer “Pull Ahead” programs to take you out of your current lease and put you into a new lease of the same brand at no penalty. Like Mercedes Benz currently has a 4-month “Pull Ahead” program on most models and BMW has a 6-month “Pull Ahead” on some of their models. Most dealers are sneaky though and will tell you the programs are for many more months than what is being offered; and then basically rolling in the remaining payments that aren’t covered into your new lease. How do you really know the truth? Call me! |
